The Acadia Shawl Designed by Susan Blair

For this project, I choose Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek low-pill fiber DK yarn, and I could not be happier with the results! The drape of this shawl makes you feel like you have produced a piece that will have everyone asking, “Where did you buy that? I love it”. Your envious friends and family will be begging you to make them one too.

So, is it beginner-friendly? YES. Don’t be scared of the shape or thoughts of increasing; the technique is written right into the pattern. You won’t even know you are doing it. If you get a decent DK yarn that doesn’t split on you, you will have no problems. I know that as beginners, we try to stick to thicker yarns, making it easier to see our stitches. While DK is a light three yarn, if you have been working with a four or three yarn already, you will have no problems. This is a pattern you should not shy away from.

Susan Blair did a great job of making a pattern that was very easy to read and follow. She has broken the shawl into sections making sure new pattern readers are not overwhelmed. Her total yarn needed was spot on, and if you are still not working a gauge swatch (you know who you are 😉), this pattern is very forgiving. It only utilizes a few easy beginner-friendly stitches, and best of all, it is a free download on Ravelry!

Now, I have to admit I worked this pattern up in just a couple of days. I kept reaching for it whenever I had time to crochet, which means that some of my other projects got to feeling a little neglected. It will take you a little longer for new crocheters, but it is worth every minute spent on this fantastic, beautiful and straightforward shawl.
